Tasty Tuesday in Alabama. This is my 15th dish or 86th on the countdown of 100 Dishes To Eat In Alabama Before You Die

Baumhower’s restaurant in Tuscaloosa, was started by a former University Of Alabama and Miami Dolphins player  and the place has a sports bar vibe. On one Sunday, I caught my Packers game on their screen and stuffed my face. The photo is of the menu which speaks to Alabama food and pride.

This sandwich is pretty hearty to say the least. It consists of; Seasoned turkey served on sourdough bread and topped with Blanco AND Parmesan cheese, mushroom beef gravy, applewood-smoked bacon and just for good health, a fresh slice of tomato.


Hello big boy, you are a hot mess!

Originated at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky in the 1920’s. This place must have been a party place because this sandwich was needed to feed the patrons after a night of dancing.   Turkey was generally for holidays and this special sandwich combination became a huge hit with the guests.


I liked the sandwich, but could only eat a portion of this monster. I couldn’t find the nutritional information but a quick calculation tells me this sandwich is likely somewhere in the vicinity of 1244 – 1545 calories. 110% of my daily cholesterol, 3298 mg of sodium (way over daily intake) etc…I would have to boogie down for like a week to work off those calories.  However, I can imagine a former college and NFL player serving this to some hungry guys.  And for that, I am jealous, thumbs up!

I give this sandwich 4 MEGastars **** It met the criteria of Alabama pride. It was a unique tasty ***dish in a fun atmosphere. *
